Saffron Maids are an established North West Morris Clog and Garland Dance team initiated in 1993 who practice throughout the year at 7.30p.m. on Wednesdays in the upstairs of “Coffee Corner” Wadebridge in Cornwall (located just past the cinema.)

We benefit from some great exercise; good company and we do have a laugh, often, but take our performing seriously. Whenever we meet for a practice you will find us welcoming any ladies 16 years and over who would like to ‘give it a go’ or to just watch and see if it appeals.

We also need musicians, male or female so if you can play anything, fiddle, concertina, accordion, drum, guitar, mouth organ, spoons, whatever, please consider joining us too. Your time would be greatly appreciated.

Our outfits are in the Cornish colours of saffron and black with white shirts and socks, decorated straw hats and beads of choice. (See photo album) Whoever joins does not have to pay for an outfit this would be loaned to you for the duration of your time with us, to be promptly returned should you leave for any reason. Clogs if you have them, if not we can usually help. However this is not mandatory!! Flat heeled black shoes are more than acceptable.

Our present members come from an approximate 10 mile radius, so a lift or car share is often arranged. We do though have one dancer that does a 30 mile round trip on practice nights, such is her dedication to the team.

Now the fun bit.....During the spring and summer months as do most Morris Teams, we go out and about dancing for our enjoyment and hopefully giving others pleasure at the same time. We have had many a novice watching who can’t help themselves when the music begins, it would seem that they just can’t resist joining in, and we welcome them. We also have some dances for children too. The impromptu all adds to the fun of the tour. Of late we have been invited to dance at indoor events during the autumn and winter.
